Kings Cliffe Active awarded £74,015 of funding from Sport England
Local sports charity Kings Cliffe & Area Community Sports Project, known as KC Active is among 148 local sports projects to secure a share of £10 million of National Lottery funding from Sport England’s Inspired Facilities fund.
Since 2011, Inspired Facilities has been helping breathe new life into developing community sports facilities into venues suitable for grassroots sport.
KC Active is proposing to build 2 Netball / 3 Tennis floodlit and fenced courts to cater for the newly formed Kings Cliffe Back to Netball group and a large number of local residents who have expressed an interest in Tennis, including improving opportunities for local children and young people to play, linking particularly with the Kings Cliffe Endowed School
Sport England Property Director, Charles Johnston, said: “The Inspired Facilities Fund has had a huge impact on grassroots sport across the country. Since 2011, we’ve invested £94 million into more than 1,800 projects to improve and refurbish sports clubs and transform non-sporting venues into vibrant community sports clubs.
“It’s great to see Kings Cliffe Active join the long list of successful clubs to benefit from this fund.”
Vice Chairman of the charity Trustees Simon Fairhall, said: “We are delighted to have secured this investment, which together with the funds secured through East Northamptonshire Council means that we are so close to our target and we very much hope and expect to have new facilities in place by next summer, which will be a fantastic addition to our site providing more opportunities for more people from north east Northamptonshire to play sport in their local area. It also means we can turn our attention to our next planned development!
Local MP, Tom Pursglove, said: “I was delighted to hear that Sport England are to invest in sporting facilities in Kings Cliffe. In the Chamber of the House of Commons, I have regularly stressed the importance of people of all ages being able to participate in sporting activities in their local area. This grant will make this a reality for the residents of Kings Cliffe and I am sure it will benefit the wider Northamptonshire community too. I congratulate all those who worked so hard to secure this investment and I look forward to visiting in the near future.’
This Inspired Facilities Award complements the one received from East Northamptonshire Council whose Leader, Steven North, said: “We were very happy to financially support this project with money from our Community Facilities Fund. I am sure the new courts at Kings Cliffe Active will make an important contribution to local people’s health and wellbeing. It’s these kinds of projects which help communities grow and thrive and I look forward to seeing you all enjoying the new facilities.”
