A tennis Club in Somerset has secured Olympic legacy funding from Sport England’s Inspired Facilities fund.
Sport England has revealed that more than 1,300 local sports projects across the country have now received National Lottery funding through Inspired Facilities, part of its Olympic and Paralympic legacy programme.
Yeovil Tennis Club will receive £25,000 of National Lottery funding to upgrade its facilities by building a fourth floodlit tennis court. The additional capacity will enable the club to extend its programme to include disability and wheelchair tennis and to provide more sporting opportunities for current and future residents and young people within Yeovil and the surrounding area.
Sport England’s Chair, Nick Bitel, said:”A year on from the Olympics, this National Lottery investment is helping us deliver a lasting sporting legacy in Yeovil. With investment now on offer from our Inspired Facilities Fund until 2017, we look forward to supporting many more sports clubs in the South West who play such a vital role in grass roots sport.”
Club Chairman, Jean Raphael, said;”We are delighted to have been awarded this funding which will enable us, as the only tennis club in Yeovil, to offer top class facilities to the local community. We are proud to be a part of the 2012 Olympic and Paralympic legacy.”
Local MP, David Laws, offered his congratulations saying,”Many congratulations to everyone in the Yeovil Tennis Club on this award. My thanks go to all those who are working so hard to offer a range of opportunities for all members of our community to participate in fitness activities and to enjoy tennis here.”
Yeovil Tennis Club is one of well over 300 projects across England receiving lottery investment from the fourth round of the Inspired Facilities Fund and one of more than 1,300 to benefit overall.
Many more communities are now set to benefit from the hugely popular fund after Sport England announced that it was extending Inspired Facilities until 2017, with an additional £40 million of National Lottery funding to invest. The next funding round will open on 21 October 2013.
