Manlow Climbing ATP Tour World Rankings

Thursday, July 10, 2014

Somerset-born Dan Manlow has earned two more ATP Tour points and has risen to just outside the world’s top 1000 following impressive performances in ITF Future events in Oklahoma, USA.

The 23 year old made it through the first round of both the F15 Tulsa event and F17 Oklahoma City event to earn a further two points to add to his existing tally of eight. The results mean that Manlow has now risen to 1029 in the ATP Tour world rankings.

In the singles of the Tulsa draw, Manlow won his first round match over American qualifier Chase Gordon in convincing style, sweeping through 6-1, 6-2 and into the last 16. However, the 23-year-old’s journey ended in the next match after he was beaten by world number 637 Ernesto Escobedo 6-3, 6-2.

The Somerset player enjoyed a great run in the doubles alongside fellow Brit, Ashley Watling. The pair reached the semi-finals after having beaten the second seeds in the quarter finals in straight sets. The duo eventually lost to Jared Donaldson (USA) and Fares Ghasya (Libya) 6-3, 6-4 to be denied a place in the final.

Manlow was able to maintain his form in the singles by reaching the last 16 at the following event in Oklahoma City. He registered a 6-4, 6-0 victory over Dem. Rep. Congo player William Bushamuka in the first round. But, once again, he was unable to reach the quarter finals after suffering a narrow 3-6, 6-3, 6-4 loss to American Colin Altamirano.

He experienced a less successful time in the doubles whilst partnering Mexican Alan Nunez Aguilera. They were beaten in the first round in straight sets by American duo Adam El Mihdawy and Nick Papac 6-1, 6-4.

On the back of Manlow’s consistant displays his world rankings continues to rise and if he can maintain his form, there’s a real chance he could break the world’s top 1000. Another positive note for the 23-year-old is that he is now the proud owner of a doubles world ranking of 1570.
