Frome Selwood Tennis Club has successfully completed the first of the Davis Cup victory inspired free training programmes for 5- 8 year olds who have never been coached or played tennis before.
Donna West and Callum Hill presented a free racket to each of the children on completion of the programme to enable them to continue to build upon what they have learnt. As part of the preparation for this course Donna was specially trained by LTA coaches including Leon Smith, the Great Britain Davis Cup Team Captain, on how to deliver the coaching.
When the Club publicised the six free lesson programme the response was such that Donna applied to run two further courses, each of which have been fully subscribed.
This Davis Cup Legacy initiative has been created by the LTA as a means of not only inspiring youngsters into the sport but also encouraging parents to support their children as they learn the skills and enjoyment of playing tennis.
