Tennis and Wimbledon fever will sweep across Dorset over the next two weeks and local venues will be looking to take advantage of the Championships’ hype over the coming weekend.
Free tennis will once again be on offer at lots of venues throughout the county as part of the LTA’s Great British Tennis Weekend. After the huge success of both the first and second weekends of the nationwide event, hopes are even higher going into the third weekend of the series.
Participating venues include;
- Yeovil Recreational Ground
- Bridgwater Tennis Club
- Somerton Tennis Club
- Brent Knoll and Mark Tennis Club
- Westfield Academy Trust
These venues are offering a range of activities such as; Cardio Tennis, family tennis, Mini-Tennis, junior tennis, disability tennis, Tennis Xpress, serving competitions and free play sessions.
The events will be on the third of four weekends over the summer and will take place on Saturday 28th and Sunday 29th June for all ages and abilities.
Yeovil Recreational Ground is holding events from 10am-5pm on both the Saturday and the Sunday. The venue is offering family tennis and free play to all visitors.
Bridgwater Tennis Club is running it’s event from 1pm-4pm on the Saturday, which will include mini-tennis, junior tennis, Cardio Tennis and adult coaching.
Brent Knoll and Mark Tennis Club is hosting an open day of tennis for it’s visitors 10am-4pm on the Saturday.
As well as at Yeovil Recreational Ground on the Sunday, there will be events at Westfield Academy Trust from 10am-4pm for free use of the courts.
Somerton Tennis Club are also in action on the Sunday. The club is running adult coaching from 2pm-5pm for keen over 18’s.
Volunteers and coaches will be on hand to help out and there will be rackets and balls to borrow so all you need is a pair of trainers.
The Great British Tennis Weekend events have an online booking system that members of the public can use to book their place on various sessions and activities for their chosen days and venues.
The fourt and final event of the series will be on 19th and 20th July, so there is still an opportunity to get signed on for some brilliant free tennis sessions.
