As part of the Frome Festival and the ‘Grass Roots Campaign’, Frome Selwood Tennis Club is opening its doors on Sunday 6th July, 10 am to 4.00pm, to encourage everyone of any age, from beginner to tennis returner to come along and have a fun day at its premises off Somerset Road, next to the Mary Baily playing fields.
Activities on the day will include Mini Tennis, Cardio Fitness, Open Play and a Fastest Serve Competition. And, as it is Wimbledon Mens’ Final day, the obligatory strawberries and cream will be on offer alongside a BBQ of slow cooked pork, burgers and sausages. There will also be a TV available for those who want to keep an eye on the Wimbledon action from 2pm.
‘The Club’s ‘Grass Roots Campaign’ is about reaching out in to the community to encourage and facilitate new and returning players to pick up a tennis racquet,’ said John Price, Chair of the tennis club. ‘The Campaign is also working toward providing the facilities that help make this possible. The three new tennis courts planned as a joint initiative between the tennis club and Frome Town Council is a crucial part of this plan.’ Tennis racquets will be available on the day for any visitor who needs one.
