The last BW Controls Ltd Mini Red Tournament of 2012 saw 8 players battle it out for the trophy with 5 of them playing their first ever Tennis Tournament. Head Coach, Vinny Duddy along with his daughter Heather refereed the tournaments and both had very little work to do as the players played competitively but very fairly. With eight players, all playing each other, this meant 7 matches to 10 points and Duddy said it was really pleasing to see all the players winning at least one of their matches.
The eventual champion was Tom Spinks, one of the Avenue’s Academy Players who won six of the seven matches (6 wins and 69 points), the second player Ruben Hathaway, from Weston, won 6 games too, but lost 10 – 6 to Tom in their match ending with 6 wins and 66 points. Winner Thomas played extremely well with his only loss to Avenue Mini Red Academy player, Samuel Lodge, who was playing his first ever tournament.
Duddy said it was a really nice event and we were very lucky with the weather in the morning; he said he wanted to thank all the parents for bringing their children along.
The next event at the Avenue Tennis Club will be the Boxing Day Fun Doubles event which will start around 11:00 (ish); all are welcome to play and run off their Xmas excesses; if you need a racket just see Vinny on the day. The next BW Controls Ltd junior red and orange tournaments will be on Sunday 24th February and 24th March 2013.
Duddy said the club are keen to encourage new members to the club, adults and juniors, and have a new adult membership offer available at the club which includes 10 coaching lessons and membership of the club up until 31st March 2013 for £75; anyone interested should contact him at the Club – 01278 782758. Membership of the club for juniors is less than a £1 week and includes access to Vinny’s Minis on a Friday evening which is 2 one hour sessions of FREE tennis fun and games. Group coaching is also available every night of the week and Saturdays for juniors of all abilities together with a Tennis Tots session on a Saturday morning from 10 am till 11 am for 4 to 5 year olds.
