To all those involved in Welsh Tennis
Many of you will have seen the news that Virgin Active have decided to withdraw from operating at the Virgin Cardiff centre as of August 23rd. Whilst the very short time frame on this has come as a surprise to us, I would like to reassure everyone that this news does not necessarily mean that this facility will no longer be available as a key tennis centre for Welsh tennis in the long term.
As soon as we were notified about this situation we have begun immediate discussions with the Cardiff Council, the LTA, and Sport Wales with the intention of assisting the Cardiff Council to source a new operator for the centre so that it can continue to be one of our most important tennis facilities in Wales. This is of the highest priority for Tennis Wales. While there are no guarantees what the final outcome will be we are positive and confident that we can be successful with this. While the time frame that we have to work with is very short in order to prevent at least a temporary closure of the centre, we will do our very best to avoid this. There is however a real possibility that the centre will be closed for a temporary period while we work with the Cardiff Council to hopefully get a new operator in place as quickly as possible.
In the mean time we will be attempting to relocate as many tennis events as possible from Virgin Cardiff to other tennis venues to minimise the immediate impact on Welsh tennis.
Please do not hesitate to contact myself or the Tennis Wales office if you have any questions at all about anything.
Kind Regards
Peter Drew
