Junior members of Dinas Powys Tennis Club have raised £850 for the Teenage Cancer Trust through a series of events over the last few weeks.
The events included a round-the-clock “tennis-a-thon”, when juniors from age seven upwards played tennis, keeping a court in play and the ball moving for 24 hours.
One of the youngest players, 10-year-old Jules Gooding proved to be the most robust - refusing to sleep even when rotated off.
There was also a touchtennis tournament attended by more than 50 members and guests, with many of the junior players outperforming their adult opponents.
Simon Clarke, South Wales Tennis Development Manager at Tennis Wales, said: “This was a terrific achievement, which was well and truly led by the club’s youngest players, with support from their parents and adults at the club.
“The junior captains chose the charity and deserve a real pat on the back for making this happen. This really shows that tennis isn’t just about competition, it’s a superb social and recreational activity, which can also bring benefits to others.”
