Warwickshire County Closed Blog - Day 5

I know we have all heard that saying “Indian Summer” for a late blooming summer however what do we call a summer when all we seem to get is rain, answers on a postcard please!  Unfortunately, the torrential rain overnight had made many of the courts at Billesley Indoor Tennis Centre unsafe to play on (unless you were a Fish, Duck, Eel, Dolphin, Aqua-man, Ect. that is) so some of the play was moved inside onto any available indoor courts.  This action was repeated throughout the day as the rain continued to make a complete and utter nuisance of itself!  Its enough to make even the most laid back team of competition organizers go insane though it always amazes me how they can take all this disruption in their stride.

To keep the masses entertained at Billesley Indoor Tennis Centre luckily there are two internet-enabled computers in the internet café and a Nintendo Wii on hand to beat those rainy blues.  I think next year if the weather disrupts the event again we should just play out all the tournaments using the Nintendo Wii, it can rain all it likes then and nobody would bat an eyelid!  In between all the frantic match and indoor court switching I managed to grab hold of Simon Haddleton (Kenilworth Tennis Club) for a quick interview on what it is like being a competition organizer.  You can catch the video below:

If that video has wetted your appetite and you want to find out more about becoming a competition organizer or even an ABTO Referee drop me an email and I’ll give you all the information you need.  Don’t forget that you can see all the results so far from the Warwickshire County Closed here and I’ll see you back here tomorrow for my final blog live from finals day, it’s guaranteed to be a good one!
