It’s the end of August 2011 which can only mean one thing, its time for the Warwickshire County Closed 2011. This year's county closed has a few slight differences than those gone by, for instance it is a week later this year and is finishing on the 1st day of the Winter Season (1st September 2011). There is also a new refereeing team in place in the form of Beverly Lancaster and Simon Haddleton to oversee proceedings. However, one of the main differences this year is that the tournament has been started on and run over a weekend with the mini tennis red matches kicking the tournament off on Saturday 27th August.
As always there was some impressive mini red and green tennis on the mini tennis courts at Billesley Indoor Tennis Centre drawing quite a crowd of parents, coaches, players and members of the general public. In the boys after a tightly contested final Harry Lazell (University of Warwick) overcome Connor Beckinsale (Kenilworth Tennis Club) 10-4 and in the girls Mia Faulkner (Edgbaston Priory Club) beat Grace Gamble (Kenilworth) 10-4 in another impressive match. Congratulations to both Harry and Mia on their victories in the Mini Red event.
Upon conclusion of the mini tennis red and with the Mini Green and Orange due to start on Wednesday alongside the full ball it proves to be another exciting County Closed event in Warwickshire. Tomorrow there will also be the return of interviews with tournament staff, players, parents and coaches so if you are heading down to Billesley Indoor Tennis Centre venue you may well be caught on camera so watch out!
