Over the first weekend of December Warwick School’s U14 Tennis team took part in the National Finals at Bolton Indoor Arena. This was a fantastic achievement in itself considering the competition started with over 2700 school and Warwick made it through to the final 4.
The boys represented the school with passion and pride on the first day. They lost 4 matches to 2 against Reeds School and then Millfield 6-0 with both teams having top national singles players and are also LTA elite Tennis academies. On Sunday the team finished their weekend playing Glasgow High School. After one doubles win each the teams were level at 1-1. The story of the weekend then developed with Joe Hill winning 6-4 after being down most of the set, Cameron Maguire winning 6-3 in another very tight match in which he was down and then Finally Sam Reay-Smith winning 6-4 in another fierce contest. This put the match out of sight and Warwick won 4-2. An incredible achievement and the boys can be proud that they have finished 3rd out of 2700 schools and more importantly Warwick U14’s are the best non scholar or academy Tennis team in the country!!
All players have learnt that they need to raise their mental edge to their Tennis and also their “on court” presence to live at national levels. What a great experience for all the players involved and it shows that with hard work National Competitions are well within our sites for the future at Warwick School.
Well done to Sam Reay-Smith, Robert Yates, Cameron Maguire, Joe Hill and Alex Domingo for such a fantastic national achievement.
