The Wildmoor Tennis League - Junior Competition March Opening Rounds
The first March round of Junior Tennis Cup competition Pool matches of the Wildmoor Spa Tennis League for the South Warwickshire & District have been completed with Alcester A top in Pool A, Littletons A leading Pool B, Pershore top of Pool C and Stratford-on-Avon A pair dominating Pool D.
The competition is for teams of 12 years old and under and takes the format of four Pools of four teams who each take it in turn to host a Pool each month over the summer between March and June. Pools are played on a round robin basis with one pair of juniors from each club, one set each match (tie break at 6-6), allowing 3 sets/matches per team per pool night. The Junior Play-offs Pool night between the winning teams from each of the four pools will be held at Litlletons Tennis Club on Wednesday, 4th July, 2018. The top two teams from this play-off Pool will then go on to a full match Cup Final to be played at Alcester Tennis Club on Sunday 2nd September, 2018, alongside the men's Inter-League Charity Cup Final, followed by the League's Annual Presentation.
In the Pool A matches played at Henley-in-Arden, Henley A pair Joe Williams & Joe Webb as hosts managed to squeeze a victory over Alcester A pair James Faulks & Ben Pons 7-6, but then lost to Alcester B’s pair Ollie Linnett & Henry Beer 4-6, before triumphing over their Henley B boys Jack Quantrill & Max Gilliver 6-2. Meanwhile Alcester A bounced back to beat Henley B 6-1 and Alcester B 6-4. Alcester B also recorded a second win beating Henley B 6-2. This gave Alcester A, Alcester B and Henley A 5 points each. However, Alcester A enjoyed a points difference of +6 to take the lead at the top of their Pool A table with Alcester B on +4 in second place and Henley A on +3 third.
The Pool B night at Chipping Campden was rained off and will be played during April.
On to Pool C played at Evesham, where Pershore dominated proceedings. Their boys Toby Atkins & Tom Edwards beat Evesham A 6-1, then Evesham B 6-2 and finally, Redditch A 6-1. Evesham A lads Jamie Woodcock & Joshua Rushby lay second after they beat Redditch A 6-0 and Evesham B 6-3. The latter duo Joseph Wilson & Daniel Wilde for Evesham managed to salvage a victory over Redditch A brothers Finlay Shannon & Felix Shennan 6-4.
