Monday, April 23, 2012
Wanborough’s Louse Hunt is among a three-strong Great Britain women’s wheelchair tennis team selected this week by the Tennis Foundation for the 2012 BNP Paribas World Team Cup in Seoul , Republic of Korea from 21 – 27 May.

The 20-year-old British No. 3 has a long history of representing Great Britain in the annual Davis-Cup style competition, having played for both the GB junior teams and senior women’s teams in recent years. In 2009 she was a member of the team that reached the final of the women’s event for the first time in the prestigious competition’s 25 year history, when Great Britain played on home soil in Nottingham .

Hunt has since partnered fellow Brit Jordanne Whiley as Great Britain reached the women’s semi-finals in each of the last two years, winning a bronze medal in 2011 in South Africa .

“I’ve had some of my proudest moments as a tennis player while representing Great Britain in the World Team Cup, especially in 2009 when we reached the final for the first time on home soil,” said Hunt, who flew out of the country shortly after hearing of her selection in order to contest the South African Open in Johannesburg, which starts on Saturday. “We’ve done well to reach the semi-finals in the last two seasons and winning the bronze medal last year when me and Jordanne played all the singles and doubles matches was another memorable occasion. With all three top ranked Brits in this year’s squad we can hopefully mount a strong challenge once again.”

“With 2012 being such a crucial year for wheelchair tennis, the World Team Cup gives the players a great opportunity to come together and compete as a team ahead of the London 2012 Paralympics,“ said Paul Regan , Team Manager of the GB Wheelchair Tennis World Team Cup Team.

“We have selected our strongest team and I am confident the players will do GB proud in Korea .”
