One of Sheffield’s most popular tennis centres has appointed a top manager to bring the sport to new audiences.
Mark Hamilton has taken on a new role as tennis manager at Graves Tennis and Leisure Centre.
Mark joins following a hugely impressive career spanning almost 18 years with the Lawn Tennis Association (LTA), where he was responsible for developing engagement with tennis at local, regional and then national levels.
Mark said: “My goal is to build on the great work already achieved at Graves and develop tennis within the City to get more people of all ages and abilities involved in the sport.”
Starting out at Graves Tennis and Leisure in Centre in 1992, Mark rose to become the head of tennis sustainability for the LTA, overseeing return on investment of £40million and developing facilities for people to get involved in tennis across the country.
Mark Cowen, general manager at Graves, which is operated by Sheffield International Venues (SIV), said: “We are incredibly lucky to have Mark joining our team - he has a proven track record of success when it comes to bringing tennis to new audiences and that is exactly what we are looking for.
“Our commitment to the tennis programme means we are able to invest in top people like Mark and develop Graves as one of the Country’s leading tennis centres.”
Graves Tennis and Leisure Centre has 16 tennis courts – 10 outdoor courts and 6 state of the art indoor courts.
Graves has the LTA Clubmark and is also listed as a LTA Performance Centre.
Graves welcomes more than 265,000 visitors per year and offers tennis coaching to over 350 children and 100 adults every week.
The Centre is the regular training facility of Paralympian Alex Jewitt, and Former U18s World number 21, Christopher Wood.
