Two students at Leeds Metropolitan University, Edward Holt and Antony Cotterill have been selected to represent Great Britain in the BNP Parisbas World Team Cup (Wheelchair Tennis) in Alphen, the Netherlands from 26 May – 1 June.
Ed Holt who is currently attending Leeds Metropolitan University as a full time athlete but combining his sport with studying a part time French course. He is making his debut playing for Great Britain in the Men’s World Group. Ed came to the University in Sept 2012 studying FdSc Sports Performance as a TASS athlete. He joined the University Tennis Club, and has a strong support structure around him, which has enabled him to develop and start to achieve his ambition to compete for his country at the Paralympics. Antony Cotterill came to Leeds Metropolitan University to train in September 2014 and combines being a full time athlete with studying a part time Italian course. This is the 6th time Antony has been selected to represent Great Britain in the World Team Cup Quad division. When asked about his selection he said “I am happy to be selected to represent my country again and looking forward to a successful outcome”. Ant reached his highest world ranking of 6 (singles) and 5 (doubles) in 2014.
Louise Assioun (Tennis Development Manager) who coaches both Ed & Antony at the University described the selection as a great achievement for both players. The hard work and dedication that both players put into their tennis on and off the court, is being rewarded by the honour to represent their country. I wish them, and all of the players representing Team GB every success in the forthcoming event.
