If you thought tennis was a sport just played in the summer, then think again. Nowadays tennis is played all year round at most clubs and Stocksbridge Tennis Club is no exception. But this year will be a little different at Stocksbridge as the courts now have floodlighting on all four courts which mean tennis can be played all year round and even in the dark winter evenings. The club secured a grant from the LTA to have the floodlights installed, along with money raised by members and added to by the generosity of local businesses and community organisations.
To mark the completion of the floodlighting and the start of the winter season the club are holding a tennis celebration event on the evening of Monday 5 October between 7-9pm. Members and non-members are invited to come along, see the floodlit courts and play tennis. The floodlights means that the club can continue with a coaching sessions throughout the winter and these are open to non-members. Why not come along and have a go? There is coaching for adults on Monday evenings, 6.30 – 7.30pm for Beginners or 7.30 – 8.30pm for Improvers; Cardio tennis on Friday 7-8pm; Family Tennis on Sunday 10 – 11.30am; junior coaching on Wednesdays 4.30 - 6pm and Mini tennis on Saturday mornings for 5-13 year olds. Membership Officer, Anne Postlethwaite says “The court floodlighting is the final stage of the improvements to the club and with new resurfaced and resized courts we are able to continue playing tennis all year round. With four lovey floodlit courts we can offer coaching and tennis sessions throughout the winter. We would like to encourage people to come along to this community club and try out the courts and floodlights at this free event on 5 October”.
