Alfie Hewett bowed out of the men’s singles and doubles despite a fine effort against the defending champion and top seed in the men’s singles quarter-finals, while Richard Green saw his quad consolation singles challenge end against fellow Brit James Shaw in the semi-finals.

Hewett took world No. 5 Joachim Gerard to a third and deciding set in the last eight of the men’s singles before Gerard pulled away In the final set for a 6-1, 4-6, 6-2 victory. Hewett and South Africa’s Evans Maripa were also involved in a closely contest men’s doubles semi-final, but the third seeds eventually slipped to a 6-4, 7-6(6) loss to the Belgian second seeds Mike Denayer and Gerard.

Shaw beat Green 6-0, 7-6(0) to move into the quad consolation singles final, while Shaw and Adam Field were runners-up to Israel’s Itay Erenlib and Antonio Raffaele of Italy in the quad doubles.

Alfie Hewett moved into the men’s singles quarter-finals and men’s doubles semi-finals as the world No.1 ranked junior started his challenge in Ile de Re.

After a first round bye along with the other seven seeded players, sixth seed Hewett opened his men’s singles campaign with a 6-3, 6-2 win over Sebastien Husser of France. Hewett will now meet world No. 5, top seed and defending champion Joachim Gerard in the last eight.

Hewett and South Africa’s Evans Maripa renew a doubles partnership that saw them almost cause an upset at the British Open in July and the Ile de Re third seeds moved into the last four with a 6-3, 6-3 win over French duo Gaetan Menguy and Thomas Vinatier. Hewett and Maripa now play Belgian second seeds Mike Denayer and Joachim Gerard for a place in the final.

After an early 6-2, 6-3 singles loss to Israeli fourth seed Itay Erenlib, Richard Green secured his place in the quad consolation semi-finals after beating Frenchman David Alves Cerqueira 7-6(3), 6-1.

Green and Austria’s Markus Wallner slipped to a narrow 7-6(4), 7-5 loss to all-British duo Adam Field and James Shaw in their opening quad doubles match.
