Lawn Tennis Association (LTA) Chief Executive Roger Draper has given tennis in Slough and Reading a ringing endorsement after presenting two local facilities with the prestigious ‘Beacon’ status at the weekend.
Caversham Park in Reading and Salt Hill Park in Slough were both awarded the status as part of the AEGON Parks Tennis programme, delivered in partnership with the LTA and Tennis Foundation, in recognition of their high quality, affordable community tennis programmes.
Roger Draper enjoyed a tour of the area and was on hand to present the plaques to the two clubs as they joined more than 100 sites across the country to achieve the national accolade, which recognises the best community-focussed facilities offering an element of free tennis and coaching as part of the AEGON Parks Tennis programme. Beacon status is awarded to sites that offer quality free and affordable tennis opportunities for the local community and must achieve the certain criteria. Each Beacon site also joins the programme called AEGON Parks Tennis, the brand name for British Tennis’ parks programme. What is Beacon?
