The Berkshire Over 35s Team, captained by Andrew Rogers, were competing this weekend in Group 2B of the Over 35s County Event at Devonshire Park, Eastbourne. With 3 wins out of 3 the team were promoted to Group 1.
We were represented by Paul Hand, Gregg Saffery, Hafeez Hameed, Tim Davis and James Weeks.
Day 1 v Kent WON 4 - 1
James Weeks won the opening singles match Tim Davis lost the second s...ingles match Paul Hand and Hafeez Hameed paired up to win 2 matches Gregg Saffery and Tim Davis won the final doubles of the day
Day 2 v Hants WON 3 - 2
James Weeks and Tim Davis lost he first two singles matches leaving us 0 - 2 down.
Paul Hand and Gregg Saffery then paired up for two straight wins to take the match to 2 - 2.
Then James and Tim paired up for the final deciding rubber and won to secure an excellent fight back!
Day 3 v Yorkshire
Yorsshire only had 4 team members and one of the players was injured and as a result they had to conceed the opening singles to James Weeks and also the last doubles match, leaving us 2 - 0 up before we started! All we had to do was win one rubber to win the group and gain promotion to group 1.
Tim Davis lost the second singles match to a very strong opponent.
Then Paul Hand and Hafeez Hameed came back from 2-6, 2-4 down to win in a final set tie break thus securing the overall victory.
