Neil Pauffley edged Liam Broady in the opening round of the Aegon GB Pro-Series men’s singles on Tuesday.
Playing on The Northern Club grass courts, a healthy crowd were court side to support 19 yea- old Broady, a member of the club.
In a match of high quality tennis third seed Pauffley edged the firts set on a tie break 7-6(2), before some solid groundstroke hitting saw Broady capture the second set 6-2.
There was nothing between the two players in the final set, and after nearly three hours of play world ranked 433 Pauffley again had the edge in a tie break winning the final set 7-6(2).
The opening match on centre court saw fellow Berkshire player Marcus Willis recover from an early break in the first set to beat Italian Francesco Vilardo, whilst Harry Meehan made good use of his booming serve to beat Nick Rosenzweig 7-6(5), 6-1.
