Berkshire's Marcus Willis captured his second pro singles title of the year, and his career, on Saturday at the Aegon GB Pro-Series Felixstowe.
In front of a healthy crowd, left handed Willis was up against No.2 seed Neil Pauffley, the two being very familiar with each other's games having come up through the junior ranks together, being of the same age and coming from Slough, Berkshire.
Pauffley was playing for his first pro singles title of 2013, having won titles in Germany & Czech Republic in 2012, and with a current ranking of 442 looking to close in on his career high ranking of 438 from June 2013.
However, it was No.5 seed Willis, who captured the title with a 6-2, 6-4 victory, having not lost a set all week. Currently ranked 550, the Berkshire player, will now jump ahead of his previous career high ranking of 548 held in May this year.
As highlighted by Tournament Director Digby Smith, it was a nice synergy that Willis won the title at the final pro grass court event of 2013, having won the Aegon British Tour Felixstowe title at the end of May. An event which opened the pre-Wimbledon grass court season in Britain.
