WHILE Andy Murray and co blazed a path into the semi finals of the Davis Cup, some ex-cup stars were teaching at a Windsor tennis club.
Windsor Home Park Lawn Tennis Club welcomed Danny Sapsford and Alexander Sabinsky to give coaching sessions on Saturday last week as part of fundraising to refurbish its clubhouse.
The coaching sessions with adults and children raised £640.
Victoria Bruce, ladies captain and marketing secretary, said: “It was a really good weekend, and everyone had a fantastic time.
“Danny and Alex were engaging and made it fun and enjoyable for everyone watching and taking part.”
More than 30 children and around 25 adults paid £5 to take part in the day’s training organised by the club and tennis charity Bright Ideas for Tennis.
It was a busy weekend for the club, which also held its club finals on Sunday.
Around 40 members took part in the men’s and ladies’ singles, doubles and mixed doubles matches, with each member playing around 60 games over the course of the day.
Miss Bruce said: “It was a particularly good weekend for the club. We are really happy with the turnout we had – it’s really nice that the local community is starting to realise that we have such a good club.
“Hopefully, when we are all settled in a new club, we can welcome lots of new members because it was lovely to see so many people enjoying tennis at the weekend.”
The club has raised £9,000 of its £35,000 target to build a new clubhouse to cater for its increasing membership. Its current HQ was damaged in last year’s winter flooding.
