Day 1

The team met at 9am on Saturday to be welcomed by team captain for the weekend Simon Baker. The forecast was looking good so we were hopeful for a good day. Our first match against Oxford went well. We had Alexander controlling his match at number one. Jack controlling his match at number two and Edward had a real battle at number three but just losing out on a third set match tie break. He fought back being a set and 2-0 down. A great effort all round and a great attitude from the Berkshire team supporting each other. We were 2-1 up with doubles to play in the afternoon.

Our second match against Essex was always going to be hard. Arda fought hard at number three but lost out, Jack fought hard at number two but lost and Alexader had a great 3 set win to make the score 1-2 with doubles to play.

Moving into the afternoon the team were well rested and ready for action. The team spirit was great from both parents and players. First up was the doubles against Oxford a match we really wanted to finish off. Alex and Jack knew what they had to do and finished the match in straight sets to beat Oxfordshire 3-1 on rubbers. Arda and Edward made a great attempt to fight back in the doubles against Essex but we lost the match 3-1.

Day 2

First match scheduled against the Channel Islands. Warm up and team meeting at 9am to review yesterday and focus on today's plan. The team motivated and ready for action by 9.30am but unfortunately the weather was against us and a constant drizzle was hitting the courts. After a brief gap in the rain the team went out to play and had a great start to the day leading the Channel Islands in rubbers 3-0. Edward, Jack and Alexander all won in straight sets using the slippery conditions well making their opponents move! We then had the hardest match of the weekend against Middlesex. Both Edward and Jack fought hard with great attitudes but couldn't find a way through against a very strop opposition. Alexader gave the team hope with a great win against the Middlesex number one! The whole event seemed to be watching this match cheering on Alexander. The afternoon we had two doubles to play the live rubber against Middlesex and the match against the Channel Islands. Edward and Arda fought hard with great team spirit to beat the Channel Island pair to make it a 4-0 win in rubbers. After another rain delay Alexander and Jack fought hard but ended up losing the the Middlesex pair.

The table finished:

1. Middkesex

2. Essex

3. Berkshire

4. Oxfordshire

5. Channel Islands

The team learnt a lot over the weekend and played with great team spirit. They know what they need to work on and will be ready for future events representing Berkshire.
