GABBY LOGAN TO ATTEND A GREAT BRITISH TENNIS WEEKEND EVENT IN READING

Wednesday, June 10, 2015

Following the huge success of the last Great British Tennis Weekend event (16th/17th May), which saw over 430 people take part in free fun-filled community based tennis activities in Reading, there are hundreds of further free tennis opportunities available this weekend for families and friends across Reading.

On the 13th and 14th of June, parks and clubs in Reading will open their doors as the nation goes tennis crazy in the lead up to a fantastic summer of tennis.  TV presenter and Great British Tennis Weekend ambassador Gabby Logan will be joining in with the fun on the afternoon of Sunday 14th June at the event in Christchurch Meadows, and as spaces are limited, you are advised to book in advance at www.lta.org.uk/gbtw to guarantee your space.

Great British Tennis Weekend is the UK’s biggest ever public tennis event and offers free tennis for anyone, whether you’ve never picked up a racket or haven’t played for a while and want to get involved.

Held over a series of three weekends, with the first taking place on the 16th and 17th May, the campaign aims to inspire people to get on court and take part in a variety of activities.

Players will be able to experience Cardio Tennis, Highland Spring Mini Tennis, coaching and much more – all for free.

Last year, more than 1,000 venues across the country hosted an event with over 50,000 people playing tennis for free in all corners of Great Britain.

Reading’s Lead Councillor for Culture, Sport and Consumer Services, Paul Gittings, said: “I am very pleased to see the Great British Tennis Weekend return to Reading.  The Council has been working closely with the LTA to make this all happen and is committed to getting as many people involved in sport and healthy activities as possible. “We’re expecting a big turnout at Christchurch Meadows so it is important to book early. This is a great opportunity for players of all ages and abilities to get out there and give tennis a go.”

Gabby Logan, TV Presenter said: “I am very excited to be an ambassador for the Great British Tennis Weekend.  With so many different activities for all ages and abilities, all for free, so many people will have the opportunity to experience tennis and the enjoyment sport can bring.  Sport has always been a big part of my life, professionally and personally and I am looking forward to getting all the family back on the tennis court this summer.”

Leo Tutt, LTA Regional Tennis Participation Manger said: “We are delighted with the success of the first Great British Tennis Weekend. With so many park sites and clubs right across Reading running their own Great British Tennis Weekend there really is something for everyone. I hope families take the opportunity to take part in these fantastic events and ready themselves for what is set to be Reading’s biggest ever summer of tennis, as we get behind Andy Murray and the British tennis stars.”

The last Great British Tennis Weekend event will take place on Saturday 1st - Sunday 2nd August 2015 where there will be hundreds of further free tennis opportunities.

Try tennis this weekend at a venue near you. Reserve your free place at www.lta.org.uk/gbtw.
