This competition has seen a steady growth from 4 schools 4 years ago to a healthy competition involving 47 teams who played 83 matches and 552 rubbers! We were able to run division 1 leagues in both age groups for teams of boys and girls. In the boy’s year 9/10 and year 7/8 division 2’s we managed to create two divisions with 5 teams in each and there was a play-off between the two winners at Dr Challoner’s Grammar School who had generously offered to host the event. We have seen an expansion in the girl’s competition which has been great to see. We hope next year to see further expansion in the overall competition with perhaps more schools from the north of the county competing. The winners in each division are as follows;
Year 9/10 Boys Division 1 Dr Challoner’s Grammar School
Year 9/10 Boys Division 2 Group A Dr Challoner’s Grammar School
Division 2 Group B Great Marlow School
Play-off winner Dr Challoner’s Grammar School
Year 9/10 Girls Division 1 Wycombe Abbey School A
Year 9/10 Girls Division 2 Wycombe Abbey School B
Year 7/8 Boys Division 1 Dr Challoner’s Grammar School
Year 7/8 Boys Division 2 Group A Dr Challoner’s Grammar School
Division 2 Group B Sir William Borlase Grammar School
Play-off winner Sir William Borlase Grammar School
Year 7/8 Girls Division 1 Wycombe Abbey School
Year 7/8 Girls Division 2 Wycombe Abbey School
Although the winners were mainly strong grammar school teams it was good to see Sir William Borlase ensure a new name on the trophy. However the other schools who took part in the competition were Akeley Wood School, Amersham School, Aylesbury Grammar School, Aylesbury High School, Beaconsfield High School, Bourne End Academy, John Hampden Grammar School, Sir William Ramsey, St Michael’s Catholic School, The Beacon School, The Beaconsfield School, The Royal Grammar School and Wycombe High School.
We look forward to next year and the continued growth of Schools tennis in Buckinghamshire.
