Bucks U 12 girls found it tough going against high quality opponents at Corby but performed with credit in the face of such tough competition.
The girls were up against some of the top players in the country from Yorkshire, Notts and Warwickshire. The team was made up of Beth Marriott, Hannah Russell, Nancy Jones and Georgie Sanders.
Beth playing at one had three tough assignments and put her first performance behind her to play excellent tennis in her second and third matches particularly in her final match against Freya Christie one of the top ranked girls in the country, pushing her hard working to a set game plan. Hannah at two fought hard in all three of her matches, played excellently throughout and was rewarded with a final match win against her highly talented Notts opponent Livvy Tomkins, winning a match tiebreak to claim a win for Bucks.
Nancy at three had a super win in her first match against Warwickshire, showing real grit and determination to come from 5-1 down in the match tiebreak to win it 10-8. A broken string early in her second match caused major problems and her third match played with an old racket was always going to be difficult. Georgie at four was slow out of the blocks in her first match against Warwickshire but her persistence and consistently aggressive approach saw her perform much better against Yorkshire in the second rubber and her reward was an excellent convincing win against her Notts opponent in the final match on court of the day with her three team mates cheering her on.
The team was excellently managed and supported by Paul Davey who helped the girls all day long, so many thanks to Paul. A tough day for sure but hopefully some real benefit for the girls and some lessons learned!
