Buckinghamshire Mixed Knock Out Senior and Intermediate Cups 2013
It was encouraging to have an increased entry to the Intermediate competition this year enabling the initial rounds to be played in round robin boxes with the winners progressing to semi finals and the knock out stages.
The senior competition yet again attracted a very small entry with only four clubs involved playing a round robin box with the top two teams progressing to the finals.
There were a number of very close matches providing some competitive tennis over the summer and hopefully more clubs will wish to be involved next season.
The Finals were held on 6 October at The Stoke Park Club and we are very grateful to them for providing the courts and generous hospitality after the event which was well supported by spectators on the most glorious sunny afternoon in a spectacular setting. Both competitions provided entertaining and competitive tennis; an appropriate finale to the competition.
The Intermediate competition was extremely close with Penn and Tylers Green (Nicky and Neil James, Sam Carey and Sinead Hughes) defeating Wooburn Park (Taisa Lane and Ben Evans, Carole Fisher and Andy Watkins) by a mere four games. Congratulations to Penn and Tylers Green and a warm welcome back to Wooburn Park making their first appearance in the competition in many years.
The Senior competition was won by Halton (Helen Adams and Alan Hutcherson, Alice Patch and Calum McKinlay) who defeated Great Missenden ((Nicki and Alex Hartley, Sophie Bell and Tor Stockdale). The Great Missenden team despite a very spirited attempt were unable to defeat the strong Halton team who deservedly won the event for the eleventh consecutive year. A fantastic record and evidence of the club’s continued commitment to the competition.
This competition requires two pairs and fixture dates are deliberately flexible and hopefully not too demanding for clubs with a heavy fixture list. I would like to thank team captains and fixture secretaries who efficiently organised matches and submitted legible results so promptly. Hopefully 2014 will see more clubs taking part!
