Jeux des Iles 2012

Jeux des Iles is a celebration of youth sports, a chance to interact with different cultures, and a journey into the traditions of islands all around the world, the sixteenth edition of Les Jeux des Iles offers more than just an international event of sporting excellence and will be hosted for the second time in Sardinia from the 24th to the 26th of May.

During the week there will be competitions in ten Olympic disciplines taking place in Cagliari, Sassari and Alghero: athletics, volleyball, tennis, swimming, gymnastics, sailing, tennis, basketball, judo, and handball.  Eva Hurst, Abbie Weaver, Simon Johnson and Stuart Parker who represented Jersey last year in Sicily have been re-select to represent Jersey for 2012 and the boys team is strengthened by the addition of Jake Evans.  The team are travelling under the watchful eye of Andrew Evans, Caesarean Tennis Club’s head of performance.

This international competition will involve more than 1000 young athletes under 16 years of age, coming from twelve islands and representing eight nations: (Portugal)Azores; (France)Corsica, Martinique; (Italy) Elba, Sicily, Sardinia; (England)Jersey, Isle of Wight; (Croatia) Korkula; (Greece) Corfu; Cyprus and Malta.
