Unique tennis opportunity for youngsters

Monday, July 22, 2013

A special tennis programme came to a successful finale this week at Heron tennis. As part of the inclusive tennis programme, a plan was put together to deliver tennis to students with special educational needs and those who, for various reasons, may not always get the chance to enjoy coaching opportunities.

Paul Roberts, Heron’s Tennis development officer, set up the coaching sessions at Treviglas and Tretherras secondary schools and received great support from all the teaching staff at both schools in setting up and supporting the programme.

Over 40 youngsters took part in the coaching sessions and last Wednesday saw all the players assembled on the lovely courts at Heron ready to put their new-found skills into action in a fun competition.

With Sports Leaders from Tretherras school doing a great job to help run the day, the players were put through a range of fun challenges and matchplay competitions that really highlighted the great progress everyone had made. Despite the baking sun, all the youngsters worked extremely hard and it was a lovely day for everyone and a super way to round off what has been an extremely rewarding and successful programme for everyone involved.

All the players were invited back to Heron for a further free coaching session and given information on how to access the other activities at Heron they can join in.

Heron tennis is extremely proud to be running a range of activities for players with any sort of disability, including wheelchair players, and if you or anyone you know, might be interested in trying tennis please do not hesitate to contact Paul Roberts on 01637 877 555.
