It was a new venture for the organisers, who, because of unseasonal weather during the preceding days, feared a small entry or even cancellation of the tournament. However, on the day the weather held and by the time all competitors had registered the Club had to arrange over 40 matches during the morning and early afternoon.
By mid-day the Mini Masters Red, nearing completion, had seen an exceptional display of talented players from many areas of the County. Additionally the organisers were delighted with the impeccable behaviour and sportsmanship shown by players so young. Among the outstanding achievements were those of Joe Williams, who remained unbeaten throughout the round robin event and the prodigious talent of Matthew Randall, both from Penzance.
Bob Ratcliffe, Chairman of Hayle Lawn Tennis Club thanked all parents and competitors for their support and for the favourable comments received regarding the recent achievements of the Club. He would also like to thank Thomas Leach, coach at Penryn, for his promotion of this inaugural event at Hayle.
By 1pm the court was given over to the 9u Mini Orange section. It was a first tournament for home players Mollie Clemens and Sophie Kitchen who should both be proud of their achievements. However, there was another unbeaten record set by Ellyn Calverley in this event with William Randall giving a comprehensive display of all round tennis skills.
