Cornwalls U14 boys put up a great fight at AEGON County Cup

The boy’s 14u Aegon County Cup for Cornwall was held at The Lansdown Club, Bath. The traveling team was Kieran Roskell-Thomas (1), Max Cameron-Webb (2), Charlie Newman (3) and Nick Peters (4).

On day 1 the team was up against a very strong South Wales side that in the end proved far to strong and we were soundly beaten. However there was a high point of this tie, Cornwall’s 1st pair doubles of Kieran and Nick produced a great performance to win their doubles match against the South Wales 1st pair. This meant that at the end of the day Cornwall had lost the match 5-1.

Day 2 saw Cornwall face an equally difficult task in the form of Dorset. The team were up for the challenge but again found themselves in an irreversible situation of 4-0 down after the singles. Unlike the day before Cornwall were unable to deliver a rubber and went down 6-0.

Day 3 saw a play off against Channel Islands for 3rd or 4th place. It was a rain drenched day and had to be moved off the hard courts onto wet astro courts. Cornwall got off to a great start with Nick Peters winning his match at number 4. Channel islands then drew back level with Charlie Newman loosing out at number 3. Max Cameron-Webb number 2 and Kieran Roskell-Thomas number 1 both produced great performances to win their matches and put Cornwall 3-1 up. The doubles was again a great performance and saw Max and Charlie narrowly miss out. Kieran and Nick managed to take Cornwall across the finish line with a win at 1st pair. Cornwall ended the day with a 4-2 win over Channel Islands and finished 3rd in what was a tough and very competitive group.

All players showed great effort and commitment through out the weekend and produced good performances against in most cases stronger opposition.
