Tom Dixon, Sport England College Sports Maker from Barton Peveril College and Eastleigh College has launched a new weekly touchtennis session in the College Sports Hall working in partnership with the PE Department, Serving Tennis, Tennis Foundation and Hampshire & IOW LTA.
The weekly session is for any student who wants to turn up and play, whether the students have a few minutes or whether they want to come along for the whole session they are more than welcome and all equipment is provided and the sessions are free of charge, made possible thanks to funding from Tennis Foundation. So far 20+ students have come along to have a go and meet the coach from local coaching provider Serving Tennis and the newly appointed FE Ambassador.
After Easter the weekly session at Barton Peveril will be competitive based with weekly points accumulating throughout the term with prizes for the league winner / runner up including equipment and entry in to upcoming touchtennis world ranking events.
Tom will also be launching a weekly entry level touchtennis session at Eastleigh College to grow another pool of participants and encourage them to get involved twice a week.
“The sessions being indoors in the sports hall is attracting students in to the game who may never have played before, the stereo is on throughout which keeps the tempo of the session and encourages onlookers to have a go.” Tom Dixon, Sport England College Sports Maker from Barton Peveril College and Eastleigh College
“It is great to see the students turn up on their lunch break in jeans and hoodies, get on court and have a good time. The new competitive sessions after Easter fed by new participants from Eastleigh College will be a great addition and incentivise the students to attend each week.” Andy Trott, LTA Tennis Development Officer SW.
