ALBANY TENNIS NEWS by Pat Sharp

The club is doing well in the IOMLTA Summer leagues with our Men’s A team completing their first match - all other fixtures having been postponed due to bad weather. They had a 5-1 win versus Castletown A. This team was Ian Watson/Jayden Go (14) and Jim Travers/Sean Drewry. In the Women’s Division 2, Albany B bt. Ramsey A 6-0 with Kath Kermode/Aailish Kelly (14) and Trish Thomas/Jackie Russell winning three sets each. As I’ve said before, it is positive for the future of our club to see Juniors playing in the Senior leagues.

Members are reminded that court painting is due to start on Saturday 15th June and last a week – weather permitting. The indoor court will still be available BUT why not enter the IOMLTA Senior Championships which start that day at Douglas TC, Kensington Road. Events are Men’s/Women’s Singles and Men’s, Women’s and Mixed Doubles. Entries close at 5pm on Thursday 13th June and you can enter on line at www.lta.org.uk/in-your-area/IsleOfMan or by e-mail iomtennis@manx.net. Finals will be played on Saturday 22nd and Sunday 23rd June.

The very sad news reached me and other members this week that Sue Feely died on Wednesday after a brave fight against cancer. Sue was Laura’s mum and a lovely person. I’m sure everyone who knows the family will feel very sad that this has happened to Laura, Charlotte and their dad Martin. Our thoughts are with them.
