James said “It is such a good achievement to be playing in the HSBC Road to Wimbledon national finals. A lot of hard work has gone in to getting here. I’ve been playing well on grass recently having won Eastbourne last week and here at Road to Wimbledon.”

James Davis the third seed won through to the final after a tough 7-6(7), 4-6, 7-5 victory over unseeded Barnaby Smith of Buckinghamshire

Also another Kent player Lucas Percy, 14, reached the semi final of this event, losing out to the eventual winner, Luke Hammond.

This year HSBC Road To Wimbledon ran just after London 2012. HSBC Road to Wimbledon has been inspiring a generation for over a decade, this being the eleventh national finals giving the opportunity of a lifetime to 128 British school children to experience tennis at Wimbledon.

To reach the national finals players had to first compete in one of over 800 local club or school events to qualify via the County Finals. James Davis and Lucas Percy reached the National Finals and were invited by The All England Club Lawn Tennis Club, and HSBC, to benefit from a fun-filled week of tennis.

During the National Finals players compete in the singles & doubles events experiencing the magic of the most famous grass courts in the world.

After his singles match, James Davis & Piers Foley of Berkshire became the HSBC Road to Wimbledon doubles champions playing fantastic tennis. The pair won the boy’s doubles trophy to deny 6-1, 6-2 Luke Hammond and Barnaby Smith.

Olympic silver medallist Tim Henman, Ambassador for the HSBC Road to Wimbledon 14 and Under National Challenge will be in attendance during the Finals and says,

He adds, “I will always remember the first time that I played at Wimbledon and I look forward to sharing this experience with this year’s finalists. It is a great pleasure to be able to help the The All England Club and HSBC support the stars of the future.”

Giles Morgan, Group Head of Sponsorship for HSBC talks also talks about sponsoring the prestigious junior tennis tournament,

“Enjoying its tenth anniversary, The HSBC Road To Wimbledon is another example of how HSBC is supporting sport at all levels, from grassroots to elite, and if we can play a small part in the sporting development of these young players then we’ll be happy. We are delighted to give our support to what has become a much anticipated fixture in the junior tennis calendar”

HSBC Road to Wimbledon reached its conclusion with the trophy presentation with Tim Henman, John Barrett of the All England Club, and Paul Hutchins Tournament Director signing off an inspirational week of junior tennis.
