Peter Bretherton President of the LTA opens New Gym at Bromley Tennis Centre
A new gym and fitness studio aimed at helping young tennis players perfect their game was opened on Sunday 27 May at Bromley Tennis Centre.
At a cost of ££350,000 and boasting the latest fitness and strength equipment the new facility has a gym, a study room for players and a multi-purpose studio. The gym is an extension to the tennis centre which has six indoor and four outdoor courts.
Director of Tennis Sandi Procter said, “The modern game demands higher levels of fitness and endurance than ever, and the gym will help our young future stars develop every aspect of their game. We already have great tennis facilities, but now we’re in a position to help players with overall strength and conditioning programmes to keep them performing at the highest levels.
The fitness facility was funded by the Kent Lawn Tennis Association, the Lawn Tennis Association (LTA) and Sport England, and Newstead Wood School and will be used by the 40 High Performance senior and junior players training full time at the centre as part of the Bromley Tennis Academy as well as existing members and customers.
Declaring the gym open, Peter Bretherton President of the LTA said,” I’m delighted to support the work of Bromley Tennis Centre and Sandi and her team in their tireless efforts for British tennis. They have transformed the centre in recent years and I’m sure it will go from strength to strength in the future.”
Hundreds of tennis players aged between 5 – 80 years played in a wide range of tournaments throughout the day, and Academy players demonstrated the fitness equipment in the gym.
