Winners Elizabeth Allwood and Rahul Dhokia

On the 8th October 2011 the Mark Wormleighton tournament was held.

For the first time in the event’s history the age band was changed to be 12 and under, as opposed to the original age band of 11and under. The top players in the county were invited to compete for this trophy.

The boys’ event was of a very high standard with some very close matches.

There were eight competitors – Rahul Dhokia, Roman Kenny-Manning, Alex Lunn, Ben Moore, Oliver Richmond, Daniel Tarokh and Ben and Daniel Wiley.

Daniel Tarokh upset the apple cart by knocking out the number 2 seed, Roman Kenny-Manning in his first round match. However, Daniel’s run of good fortune was then abruptly halted by Alex Lunn, who had only just moved up to this age group.

In the final, Alex came up against the number 1 seed, Rahul Dhokia – it was a fantastic match but experience won the day with Rahul winning 5-3, 5-4(1).

Sadly, the girls’ event had only 4 entrants - Lizzie Allwood, Amy Chamberlain , Shivani Daxini and Charlotte Moncrief.

The standard was diverse, with Lizzie Allwood dropping only one game in all her matches to win the trophy for the second year running. Runner up was Charlotte Moncrief.

Congratulations to everyone who played – it was a pleasure to organise.
