The 3rd Annual Thorpeness Junior Tournament this week has attracted a bumper entry of over 100 competitors, a very encouraging increase on the first entry total of just 40 young players. Players of all ages and abilities will be competing in Singles and Doubles events on the courts of the Thorpeness Country Club, with the majority of the finals scheduled for Friday 22nd April, weather permitting.
Indeed, a high quality entry has been received, a number of the seeded players competing this last weekend in the Aegon nationwide 14U County Cup, and there is sure to be some entertaining and hard-fought tennis throughout the week. Former Wimbledon finalist Christine Janes, now a resident of Aldeburgh, is the driving force behind the event, with daughter Amanda the Tournament Organiser.
Also being run over the Easter weekend is the annual Suffolk Open Veteran's Tournament, being staged at the Ipswich Sports Club as usual, and this popular event has also attracted another bumper entry of over 100 entries, quality players travelling to Ipswich from all parts of the country.
Sufolk's leading players, such as internationals Dave Garman and Joan Hassell, will need to be at their best against top class opposition. The Finals are scheduled for Easter Monday, and spectators are more than welcome as usual.
