On a bright, sunny morning perfect for Wimbledon Mens Finals Day, Wortham Lawn Tennis Club players took to the courts at 6am. Good fun and social play was followed by an outdoor, full English breakfast enjoyed by 35 club members. Although the event was organised around Wimbledon Finals Day, the secret reason for the event was to celebrate the fantastic work of club member Di Baker. Di has been a major part of the club for past 20 years and has carried ourt the roles of Treasurer, Secretary, committee member, ball co-ordinator, weed killing queen, hut painter, cake maker, jumble sale organiser, to name but a few. Her attitude and approach demonstrates everything that is good about a thriving rural tennis club.
It is for this reason that WLTC has made her their first ever Honorary Life Member. Di, who recently celebrated her 70th birthday, hopes she gets good value out of her life membership and plays tennis actively until she is 80 and beyond!!!
