There are now tournaments of all kinds throughout the year, but for tennis players of all ages and abilities, there is nothing to compare to Framlingham.
We are in one of the more unusual times of the year at the moment as the main coaching program is on a break for the summer holidays. This means that the daily groups coaching is suspended while the keener, more competitive players travel around the county visiting events such as Culford, Framlingham, Felixstowe and Ipswich.
Heavy overnight rain could not stop the safe conclusion of the l2lst Framlingham Tournament at the College on Saturday, Suffolk Men’s Champion Matt Hough maintaining his fine unbeaten run of the Summer with victory in a high-quality Open Singles decider against top seed Tom Hands, from Cambridgeshire.
Following improvements to their Bath Road courts, the Felixstowe Club is looking forward to hosting their 85th Junior Open next week. This will be their 3rd major tennis event this Summer, local tennis enthusiasts having already seen Suffolk Men’s Champion Matt Hough winning the British Tour and the Group 4 Men’s County Week in July, and thanks to the improved quality of the courts there is also an ITF Veterans’ Tournament in September.
After the usual busy Summer tournament programme, next week sees the climax to the holidays for our juniors with the annual Closed Tournament at the Ipswich Sports Club.
