The Suffolk Junior County Closed Championships kicked off on Monday with competitive 9U boys and girls events. Nine players competed in the boys event with Daniel Franco-Key overcoming Callum Taber in a close, three set final. Elijah Austin finished third beating Morgan Hadley in a tight 3rd/4th place playoff. In the eight player girls event Beth Gardens retained her title from 2015 in a closely fought final with Amie Hunt. Georgia Gebhart was successful in the 3rd/4th playoff, defeating Louwna Hendricks in straight sets. A number of the players recently represented Suffolk in the 9U County Cup event, in which they overcame Cambridgeshire, Norfolk and Bedfordshire to win their group, suggesting a bright future for tennis in the county.
