‘FANTASTIC NEW COVERED TENNIS COURTS JUST LANDED IN IPSWICH’
After the heroic efforts of the GB Men’s Davis Cup Team winning the Davis Cup in Belgium in 2015, Ipswich Sports Club, the members run Sports Club located on Henley Road has just completed its latest expansion plans with the introduction of a new 3 court indoor Tennis air dome. The new dome was completed thanks to support from both the Lawn Tennis Association and the Suffolk Lawn Tennis Association and will increase the Clubs indoor provision from 3 to 6 courts. The facility will help the Club to expand its ever growing and popular Tennis programme, which provides expert coaching for all ages and abilities. Tennis is a popular sport played by many and the Club has recognised the need to make the sport accessible all year round.
The Club aims to grow its existing tennis membership throughout 2016/17 with its new indoor capacity (6 Courts, previously 3) and the various fun activities on offer including Cardio Tennis (Group fun and fitness on a Tennis court to music), Mini Tennis (Age/ability based coaching, equipment and a court sized for players aged 3 upwards!), Tennis Xpress (A nationally recognised fun and structured ‘learn to play’ course for adults), Miss Hits (Andy Murray’s mum, Judy Murray from Strictly!, has put together this nationally recognised coaching course for girls aged 5-8 years to enjoy tennis with their friends), Coach led Club Nights (Mixed adult fun play), free assessments and much much more…..
On completion of the new air dome by contractors ‘Covair Structures Limited’, the Club opened the facility to its members on 22 December 2015, on hand to open the dome was local tennis celebrity, Christine Janes MBE. (Christine won a singles Grand Slam title at the French Championships in 1959 and was a finalist at Wimbledon and the US Championships. She helped Great Britain win the Wightman Cup in 1958, 1960 and 1968).

AND FINALLY ITS YOUR CHANCE TO SEE WHAT ALL THE FUSS IS ABOUT……Club Open Weekend 16/17th January 2016
The Club is opening its doors on the weekend of 16/17 January 2016 where everyone is welcome to come along and tour the Club, meet our team or even have a game of tennis or watch the various coaching activities, studio classes, and squash games taking place.
Its and ideal opportunity to experience the Air Dome whilst learning about all the other fantastic sports and facilities the Club has to offer including squash, racketball, gym, studio, hockey, crèche, kids activities and much much more…. Club Member and ex-ITFC Manager, George Burley, a keen tennis player himself, will also be on hand to officially open the dome at 1.00pm on Saturday, 16 December 2016. Some of our Top Regionally/Nationally ranked Juniors will also be on court being put through their paces by our Club coaches.
Did you know that the Club origins date back to 1870 and the Club is still growing some 140+ years later! Whilst history is on its side there is a personal, modern touch about the Club and a friendly and welcoming atmosphere is experienced by all.
And guess what, anyone coming along to the Club over the weekend will go into the draw to win a Graphite Tennis Racket worth over £100! Complimentary studio class passes are also available to anyone keen to try one of our 40 weekly classes…timetable includes Spin, Body Pump, Body Combat, Body Balance, Pilates, Yoga and much much more…..
