A tightly fought afternoon with 8 teams taking part and the final eventually won by last year’s Champions Nacton over Pipers Vale - but both schools will progress to the finals at the School Games on 6th July. In joint 3rd place were Britannia and Rushmere Hall. Attached is a picture of the winning school Nacton Primary School from the Copleston Level 2 finals for mini tennis.
In the Westbourne event there were 6 schools who took part and again a competitive afternoon of mini tennis.Eventually East Bergholt PS romped away with it losing only one game from all their players with Holbrook in a close run battle for second. Both these schools also to the School Games in 6h July to represent Ipswich and South Suffolk
To support the above events, 20 young sports leaders were trained by an LTA coach to be able to umpire and run competitions and they did a fantastic job. This was arranged by the local School Games Organiser and this is the first time a tennis leaders programme has been run in the area like this but we will look to do again as the young leaders got a lot from it. This course was an accredited LTA course and all students will receive a certificate and t shirt as well
Both the mini tennis events which are aimed ay years 3 and 4 and for non-regular tennis player [i.e. players not in clubs or having regular coaching out of school] were supported by Tennis East who came to both events and have provided sets of rackets & balls to be given to the players who get draw out the hat. A fantastic event
