Ipswich Sports Club gained pride of place at the Olympic Torch Bearer Party held in Christchurch Park, Ipswich on 5 July 2012. The Club were chosen due to their close links with the local Council and the good work being done by the Club/parks tennis coaches and Club member Paul Sheldrake.
The day started with Paul Sheldrake carrying the Olympic Touch in Wrentham, Suffolk whilst the Club and coaching staff set up a tennis rig and promotional stand in the park. Club manager, Andy Yorke said, 'We were delighted to be offered the chance to be part of the Olympic Torch party and it was great to see the smiles on the faces of the many children taking up the offer to try tennis, some for the first time!'
