Emily Wharton has won the Aegon Coach of the Month for June in recognition of her at Wortham Tennis Club.
Emily, a Level 3 coach, has worked to put together an innovative and fun Open Day for mini tennis players and their families which has already led to new members joining the club.
As well as this, Emily has doubled the size of the mini red programme and has also increased the number of girls taking part in the junior programme. She has not only increased the standard of junior play but she has also instilled, in all the juniors, a strong sense of fair play and sportsmanship.
As a result, the junior team members are great ambassadors for the club. Emily has contributed to the development of a new Suffolk Junior Winter League and ensured the club had five teams entered. She has also developed teams to take part in the Aegon Team Tennis League.
Emily actively embraces new ideas and programmes and is currently running the club's first Tennis Xpress programme. Participants are very enthusiastic about her ability and they have developed the confidence to join in the Cardio Tennis sessions at the club as well.
Isobel Hunter, Club Secretary at Wortham commented: “It is not always easy to gain recognition in a small rural tennis club but Emily really deserves that recognition for the work she does in successfully growing our programme. She is a fantastic role model both as coach and player and is a valuable asset to the whole club. We are very lucky to have her.”
