The inaugural East Area Champions Cup took place at Culford Tennis and Sports Centre over the weekend of the 20 and 21 June 2009.
Successful clubs from 8 East counties who had won their respective age groups in AEGON Team Tennis were invited to play in the Champions Cup to determine an overall winner in the 8 & Under (Red), 9 & Under (Orange) and 10 & Under (Green) events.
Congratulations to the following clubs in Suffolk who made it through to the Champions Cup; Framlingham College TC (Red), David Lloyd, Ipswich (Orange) and Culford TC (Green boys).
There were a total of 96 players from Bedfordshire, Buckinghamshire, Cambridgeshire, Essex, Hertfordshire, Norfolk, Northamptonshire and Suffolk who competed over the two day event. The standard of competition was extremely high with some very close matches.
In the Red event Riverside LTC (Bedfordshire) were victorious beating Huntingdon TC (Cambridgeshire) in a closely fought battle. All 8 counties were represented. EA Tennis (Norfolk) reached the semi-final stage.
Congratulations to David Lloyd, Ipswich (Suffolk), who were too strong for Riverside LTC (Bedfordshire) and won the 9 & Under Orange title. 7 of the 8 counties were represented in the Orange event. Easton College Tennis Centre (Norfolk) and David Lloyd, Cambridge (Cambridgeshire) both reached the semi-finals.
Although a number of rain delays interfered with the Boys and Girls 10 & Under Green events, they were successfully concluded thanks to Culford’s new indoor courts. Congratulations to Culford TC (Suffolk) who were victorious in the boys event while Gosling (Hertfordshire) won the girls event.
