In a division where Ipswich Sports Club where considered favourites to be relegated they have defied the odds and have at worst achieved a playoff place to make the National finals and be in the top 8 clubs in the country.
This achievement should not be understated, it is an incredible feat and one that the team are very proud of. Hard work and great team togetherness have seen ISC move to a position where victory in their final match see’s them win the league!
ISC travelled to Globe in north London on Sunday 12th June and played against a team battling relegation, yet the opposition were man for man still rated above every member of ISC.
Matt Hough continued to produce fantastic singles displays and he brushed aside his opponent 6-2 6-1 with an impressive dominating performance. Myles Orton won a tense match against a dogged opponent 7-5 6-1 and he continued to show why his reputation is growing. Matt Kirby came up against a tough opponent and he lost but went down fighting! Jez Cowley managed to turn around from a set and 4-1 down to win 7-6 in the third match in a tense match which left ISC in a very strong position 3-1 up after the singles.
With the experience of Cowley and Hough at number 1 pair they brushed aside strong opponents with a dominating performance to win 6-2 6-3 to secure the match and Kirby and Orton put icing on the cake with a 6-4 6-2 victory. The only blemish on a great days work was an injury picked up by Myles so fingers crossed he can recover for our crucial final match next week!
To have guaranteed a play-off place is an outstanding achievement and regardless of results from now ISC can be proud of their achievements however they will be going out all guns blazing next week and will continue to give their all which is an attitude that Suffolk men’s players have been engrained with......Good luck for next weekend boys.
