Three Cluster Group Meetings are being staged by the Suffolk LTA over the next few weeks, with clubs invited to meet Sally Pearson, the Tennis East Development Manager, Julia Waters, the Cluster Group lead, Suffolk LTA Chairman Mike Watling and other members of the Suffolk LTA Council, with useful discussion bound to be had :-
TUESDAY OCTOBER 30th: Risbygate Club, Bury St Edmunds, 7.30pm
THURSDAY NOVEMBER 15th, Ipswich Sports Club, 7.30pm.
THURSDAY NOVEMBER 15th, Plough Inn, Wangford, 7.15pm.
The 23rd Closed Suffolk Veterans’ Tournament is being staged this weekend at the Ipswich Sports Club, Henley Road. Spectoators are more than welcome to enjoy some keen-fought and enjoyable tennis.
Sadly Suffolk Ladies have been unable to raise a team for the nationwide AEGON Winter County Cup this weekend, but Suffolk Men will be competing in Group 3B at Sheffield against West of Scotland, Leicestershire and Berkshire. Jeremy Cowley, who inspired the team to retain their Division 2 status in the Summer, once again captains the following squad, which sees several youngsters given vital experience :
Jeremy Cowley (Captain), Ben Smith, Matt Hough, James Yates, Myles Orton, Paul Midgley, Ryan Lambert, Rohan Abel, Robert Camplin and James Ling.
At the other end of the spectrum, Suffolk’s 10 and Under Boys start our challenge in the 12 Counties Tournament at Corby, an event in which we fared so well last season. Coach Chris Daynes will be taking Harper Mills, Edward Johns, Jasper Chase and Max Birtwistle to compete on 4th November, though sadly we have not been able to raise a Girls’ team, which is worrying for the future.
