Culford School have appointed two new internationally renowned tennis coaches to drive their thriving tennis programme to even greater levels of success. Patrick Simon, previous coach to world number one and Wimbledon champion, Amelie Mauresmo, has been appointed as Head of Women’s Tennis. As Head of Women’s Tennis and Technical Director responsible for developing the female players at Culford, Patrick has the opportunity to develop a wide range of tennis talent. As he said on taking up his new position,
‘I am very excited to be at Culford School, it’s a fantastic opportunity for me and for any players who want to make it through to the professional tour. It is great that I can use my experience to help these talented young players.’
Also joining Culford School is former British ‘Davis Cup’ player, Andrew Richardson, as Head of Men’s Tennis. Andrew is a former top-100 doubles player and top 150 singles player with a string of Wimbledon appearances to his name. Previously Andrew has been Head Coach at the LTA High Performance Centre at Bisham Abbey, a hitting partner for former world number one Venus Williams, and has coached Davis Cup players Ross Hutchins, Josh Goodall, Lee Childs and Alan Mackin. Andrew is equally excited by the prospect of working at Culford,
"As soon as I arrived at the Culford I knew this was the place for me. It has such massive potential with the facilities, education and pastoral support all on site - I think it is probably unique in the United Kingdom. My goal is to make Culford the best school tennis programme in the UK; from this the natural consequence will be to produce world class players.’
Dave Watkin, Assistant Head of Culford School, was quoted as saying,
‘These appointments show the ambition that Culford School has to offer an inclusive tennis programme for boys and girls at every level. We have 10 coaches employed at the school who operate under the direction of Director of Tennis, David Hall and Performance Director, James Yates. With our links to the high performance centre in Cambridge and other tennis centres across the eastern region, the aspiration is to be able to combine a first class academic education alongside a truly high performance tennis programme.’
