Son of Suffolk LTA Chairman Mike Watling, Ashley and Clifford ended last season in the Round of 16 at the NCAA Doubles Championship, compiling a 23-12 record overall, which included eight wins over nationally-ranked opponents. Their previous high ranking was 19, a ranking they reached twice last season, with Watling more than justifying his decision to train in the States with a highly creditable Singles ranking of 44.
Singles wise Watling posted a 22-9 record in his junior year, and his number four ranking with Marland is the second highest doubles ranking for a Tulsa pairing in the University’s history. The Autumn season gets underway this weekend, when the “Golden Hurricane” as his team are known, travel to Midland, Texas for the Midland Classic. Watling is clearly making progress at the game he loves, and will be an invaluable asset for both Tulsa University and Suffolk for many years to come.
